Small Wins #1

The right hire, the wrong job description, and a few lessons along the way.

Small Wins is where you come to celebrate the tiny victories of building stuff.

Because building is hard, and most wins look kind of ridiculous next to the thing you’re actually trying to pull off.

You’ve already got LinkedIn, the company Slack, and your investors for the big stuff.

This is the place for “cracked three likes on my Substack note.”

We kicked off Small Wins last week with Taylor Rose, the founder and CEO of Kinstead Health.

Taylor’s small win: finally hiring an engineer after months of searching, three rewrites of the job description, and eventually realizing they were looking for a pretty different person than they thought.

The person they found had 15 years of startup experience, deep ties to healthcare, and two nurse practitioners in the family.

From there we got into hiring, healthcare, where AI actually helps, and all the company-building decisions that refuse to fit neatly into a process.

Now tell us one thing that went right this week for you.
